If you're visiting relatives in New York City for Thanksgiving, and you will be flying into Newark airport, then it's a good idea to plan out ahead of time on how you're going to get from the airport to the city. The time around Thanksgiving can be hectic. You don't want to show up to the airport with your luggage and have to stumble around looking for a taxi and find that there are huge lines. So, you have two options. One of them involves public transport, the other involves arranging for a limo to take you into the city.

By Train

The first method of public transport that is available to you is the train. You will have to get a special train located at Newark Airport that takes you from the airport to New Jersey Transit. This special train is called AirTrain. It travels around the interior of the Newark Airport and stops at the various gates. You board this and then hook up with New Jersey Transit (the Northeast Corridor Line). This train will take you into Manhattan, and your destination will be Penn Station. If you want to end up in lower Manhattan, you can switch over to the PATH at Newark Penn Station (take note that this is not the same stop as Newark Airport). You board the same Northeast Corridor line after taking AirTrain, except you get off at Newark Penn Station (instead of continuing on through Secacus Junction and arriving at Penn Station).

The trains are fast and not too expensive. The only problem is that you will need to carry around your luggage, and it can be crowded. Also, once you end up in Manhattan, you will still need to get to your family's apartment. That means taking the subway. So, you will have to walk through Penn Station and catch a subway. The subways are always crowded, so traveling with luggage will be a hassle.

By Limo

If you want to skip all of the trains, prefer to not wait forever in a taxi line, and ride into Manhattan in a cramped car, then hire a limo service. Arrange for the limo to pick you up at the airport and then take you right to your family's apartment in Manhattan. You won't have the problem of finding the right train connections or struggle with dragging your luggage through train cars, down staircases, and through the midst of a crush of people. The limo driver will help you load your luggage into the rear of the car, then you can ride comfortably into Manhattan. You can even arrange for the limo driver to make a stop in Manhattan if you'd like to pick up something on the way to their house (a gift at a wine store, for instance.)
